As you first glance at the title
of this blog, you might be in awe that a 4yr. old has the intelligence to write
an actual blog, or you may have gotten the impression that this might be a blog
about an adult who has less than a 1st grade education. Never the less, this
blog isn't about either of those topic, but if you’ve read this far than the
title, “My 4yr. Old Mind”, has grabbed your attention just long enough to
influence you to at least give it a peak.
So here we go, I was sitting at
the dinner table one night hand on head, biting my lip, deep in thought, trying
to develop a title for an assignment from my English 120 class I attend at the
local college, College of Marin. The assignment asked the students to each
individually come up with their own blog to be posted on the Internet. As I
jotted down blog after blog title and jumped from idea to idea, my stage fright
suddenly began to take over, as I cringed at the very idea of posting a blog on
the Internet to be viewable to hundreds, thousands, maybe even millions of
people and being humiliated by the seemingly dumb blog ideas and topics I wrote
down. My 4yr. old, sensing the frustration that rolled over me as I sat there with
my eyes close and head buried in my palms, walked over and ask, "Are you
okay daddy?" Shaking my head, still buried in my palms, I replied, "Yeah
I'm alright". As he walked closer he said, "are you sure daddy, you
got to headache or something, you need some medicine?" Amazing and shocked
by his ability to sense the mass amount of stress I was experiencing and have
the instinct to show his support and concern, I snickered and said, "No
really daddy's okay, I'm just a little stressed trying to figure out this blog
assignment for my homework, but thank you for being concerned." As if he
knew and understood exactly what I was going through at the time, he walked
closer, put his hand on my leg, as if to show support and comfort, and in a
very gentle voice said, "It’ll be okay daddy, you can do it." It was
at that moment that I realize my blog was right there in front of me and his
name was Dayton, my 4yr. son, the smartest, in his eyes at lease, most
encouraging, very entertaining and most interesting thing in my life. I could
fill an entire library full of books with the day to day experiences of his
life, but I'll just blog about it instead.
